A few weeks ago I received an email from my mom with the poem "Guest House" by Rumi attached. She said that it reminded her of me and it was exactly what I needed to read in that moment. Last week I then encountered this Tarot offering by Jessica Dore which not only reminded me of this poem but speaks on comforts and security, emotional processing, and sets a hopeful tone to set new intentions and move forward. All of these ideas were things that I needed a reminder of so I decided to share it here to in case anyone else needs it too. Tarot is a great way for me to stay accountable, become more self aware and set positive intentions so I think that I'll post more about it on this format. I attached the Rumi poem at the bottom of this as well as Dore's December Tarot Offering. I hope they help you renew your perspective and become more patient with yourself like they did with me.
The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes.
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
